The 36th annual Holiday Parade of Boats will add a special twinkle to the Charleston harbor this Saturday, December 9, between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. More than 30 boats have registered to participate this year ranging in length from 18 feet to 90 feet. It could be the longest parade in history.
The brightly-decorated boats will convene near the entrance to the Charleston harbor in the late afternoon and begin their promenade along the Mount Pleasant coastline around 5:15 p.m. Look for boats names like Dances With Waves, Miss Vixen, Polar Express, Knot Behavin’ and Sea Flea to name a few to arrive on the Charleston side of the harbor around 6:20 p.m..
One of the best viewing spots will be at the Light Up the Night Parade Party hosted by the Rotary Club of Charleston and the City of Charleston at the Charleston Maritime Center. Tickets for this festive, family-friendly event feature barbecue, sweet treats and young-at-heart, and jolly caroling. Santa will make a special appearance arriving by boat at 5:30 p.m.

What do the proceeds support?
Donations to the Rotary Club of Charleston serve a great cause — helping local charities through the club’s foundation. Every year, dozens of local organizations apply for funding for non-operating grants to pay for short-term projects or one-time needs. Through the boat contest and Light Up the Night Parade Party, club leaders say they want to build the foundation’s funding so more groups can get help every year.
The Light Up The Night viewing party and accompanying boat raffle serve as the club’s annual fundraiser . It uses the donations raised to fund community projects and grants. Beneficiaries range from educational institutions, to local housing nonprofits, to therapeutic services for the disabled. This annual event is Charleston’s opportunity to share some holiday cheer and simultaneously give back to the community we love.
